Over Axle Drifts
Required for installing bearings in over axle hub designs.
Note: Over Axle Drifts are only available in acetal. Due to the nature of their use, they stay nice and stable at all times and are not necessary to be made in any other material.
Two sides to every OA Drift
These OA Drifts have two different pressing sides to them. The flat side presses both bearing rings while the side with the relief will press only the outer bearing ring, which is sometimes what you need for preloaded bearings. Consult your manufacturer’s instructions.
Over Axle Drifts
Sold as a single sizes or a pack containing all (most*) sizes.
Because manufacturer’s often suggest leveraging against the first bearing to install the second bearing of a over axle design, when you buy single sizes of the Over Axle Drift, you will get two of the same size Over Axle Drift.
*The Over Axle Drift pack originally came with the size 15x32, but nobody bought a single one, so I replaced that size with the 18x32 which is really handy for the I9 Hydra front 6 bolt hub.
Over Axle Drift Sizes
Over Axle Drifts are available in these bearing sizes (ID x OD)
15x24, 15x26, 15x28, 15x30, 15x32, 17x26, 17x28, 17x30, 17x35, 18x30, 18x32, 20x32, 20x37, 25x37
The Over Axle Drift Kit (OAD-1) contains these sizes:
15x24, 15x26, 15x28, 15x30, 17x26, 17x28, 17x30, 17x35, 18x30, 18x32, 20x32, 20x37, 25x37 (no 15x32, you can still buy it individually if you need it)
Sizing Over Axle Drifts
OD of drift = OD of bearing
ID of drift = OD of axle you are installing over.
NOTES:
Bearing ID could be 17, but OD of axle you are installing over could be 15. See “Explained” video at 5:27
Drifts are required to press against the Over Axle Drift because the ends of the Over Axle Drifts are open.
